Helldivers 2 players successfully unlocked mechs for everyone, after a grueling operation in-game

It took hundreds of thousands of players fighting together, but the Helldivers 2 community has managed to unlock mechs in the game after liberating a planet.

Helldivers 2 players banded together this past few days in order to tackle a surprise Major Order in the game, which saw them tasked with liberating the planet Tien Kwan, where the in-game factories behind the production of the long-awaited exo-suits were.

After three days of grueling fighting in the planet, and hundreds of thousands of players chipping in little by little to liberate the planet from an Automaton invasion, the goal was met, and the developers revealed that in doing so, players successfully unlocked the EXO-45 Patriot Exosuit for everyone.

Of course, if you actually want to call down one of these powerful mechs, there are some prerequisites you’ll need: to begin with the stratagem is locked until you reach level 25, but there’s also a cost of 20,000 requisition to be able to purchase the upgrade. It’s worth it, however, as the mech in question is able to soak up tons of damage, and it comes equipped with a heavy machinegun and recoilless rocket launcher installed on its arms, making it a force to be reconned with.

In celebration of this massive victory, for a limited time all players are able to use the stratagem and call in their own mech. However, you’re limited to one use per mission, and there’s no telling when this will be taken away. The best course of action if you want to have these powerful weapons of freedom is unlocking it permanently, so its time to work up to level 25 and time to save up for it as well.

Is this what the future of Helldivers 2 look like?

While players expected the arrival of mechs and vehicles as part of a content drop, the fact that the developers behind the game decided to give players a mission to unlock it in-game has shaken up what we’ve come to expect from live-service games. What could have happened had the helldivers not completed the Major Order? Would mechs be postponed? Several players had already reported finding mechs during their missions, giving them a glimpse of what was to come, so this seems like something Joel the Game Master might have cooked up.

Whether or not it was planned from the start, this situation opens up the door to a lot of possibilities. Suddenly, it could be that as the galactic war progresses players could be left without certain types of stratagems or weapons. Content drops could happen at any time, which means that players are being invited to pay even more attention to the games social media, and to delve even deeper into the community.

Be as it may, there’s no denying that Helldivers 2 is an absolute success. The game is available on PlayStation 5 and Steam.
