Helldivers 2 servers at capacity: Why can’t I log in and what can I do?

The greatest enemy to Democracy has turned out to be the huge success of Helldivers 2, which has resulted in full servers and long wait times.

Arrowhead Game Studios, the developers behind Helldivers 2, have released an official apology to the community for the ongoing server issues. During the weekend, the game saw an enormous influx of players trying to get onto the live-service game, with thousands getting left out after trying to log in and being presented with the “Servers at capacity. Please try again later” message at the title screen.

Why can’t I log into Helldivers 2?

What this message means is that at that moment the servers for Helldivers 2 are completely full. Unless you’re in the game right then and there, you won’t be able to enter the title at all. The problem comes not from any server issues or errors, but from the fact that Arrowhead Game Studios and Sony didn’t expect the massive numbers the game is making right now.

The developers have been actively working on increasing the servers capacity so more people can play, even doubling (once again) their size over the weekend to allow for over 450,000 players at a time. As of today, the concurrent player peak of the game on Steam is 409,367 helldivers, all delivering justice and freedom to the galaxy at the same time. This of course is not taking into account the similarly massive numbers the game is also making on PlayStation 5, where it’s currently got more players than any other title on the console, including GTA5 and Fortnite itself.

The problem may have been worsened by the fact this weekend saw a 50% multiplier bonus on XP and Requisition for every player, as the game’s Deputy Director Sagar Beroshi announced previous to the beginning of the weekend.

What can I do if the Helldivers 2 servers are full?

We know you’re itching to drop into enemy territory and deliver some justice to the evil bugs and automatons that threaten the way of life of Super Earth, and know that your desire to commit violence and liberate the galaxy does not go unnoticed. But there isn’t much that you can do if you want to play other than getting in line and waiting for a spot to get into the game.

As mentioned above, the devs are actively working to “increase server capacity to accommodate all of you who want to dive for Freedom,” but until that happens you need to be patient. Remember that the devs are only human, and they’re already doing the best they can to bring the game to as many people as possible. As time goes by these problems will become smaller and smaller, and while you might not be able to be part of the first wave of Freedom, the war will go on, as more content will be coming to the game soon enough.
