Here are the differences between ChatGPT and the Chinese AI DeepSeek that has U.S. tech companies up in arms

The emergence of Chinese AI has caused an earthquake in the US.

Rumors are spreading that DeepSeek R2 could be released in early May, with the new version expected to be much more efficient than ChatGPT.

DeepSeek, launched on January 20, has put all U.S. technology companies in check. Companies and programs such as NVIDIA and ChatGPT have been threatened by competition from Chinese artificial intelligence, which is postulated to be one of the most widely used from now on. The magnitude of the problem has been such that NVIDIA has fallen more than 12 points in the U.S. stock market. DeepSeek was presented as an open-source program, which means that any person or company can modify it to their liking and completely free of charge, something that did not exist in the market.

The emergence of Asian AI has sparked comparisons with its American counterpart, ChatGPT. Users and companies are beginning to look for the differences between the two, which may be very similar in form, but have different functions at their core.

Differences between the two

The first difference between DeepSeek and ChatGPT lies in the very nature of Chinese AI: open source. The latter emphasizes smaller, modular models designed for specific tasks, making it more accessible to individual developers and companies. In contrast, ChatGPT’s engine is tuned through human feedback.

ChatGPT uses different types of sources from which all the information is taken, being transparent with the user by drinking from public content. DeepSeek also promotes transparency and uses open source data to avoid ethical issues, which can be a disadvantage compared to its competitor.

Other differences between the two lie in ChatGPT’s ability to solve more complex and general problems and questions, something DeepSeek is not as good at. However, the Chinese AI is faster due to its features and capabilities to solve specific problems faster, even if it is less accurate than ChatGPT.
