The new season of Fortnite, titled Lawless, brings with it a new Battle Pass full of new outfits and cosmetic items to get. These are the eight new outfits that make up the new season’s Battle Pass:
Sub-Zero is the undisputed star of the new Battle Pass, marking another crossover between Epic Games and Mortal Kombat. Like Godzilla in Chapter 6 Season 1, Sub-Zero will be the secret outfit that can only be unlocked later and by completing his special missions. The arrival of this classic fighter opens the door to the future inclusion of characters like Scorpion, Johnny Cage, or Liu Kang, who could appear as outfits in the store. Fortnite continues to expand its universe with collaborations that excite both video game fans and pop culture in general.
Sub-Zero’s appearance is that of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (1995), which explains why he is being added to the game, as it fits the theme of the season. In this third installment of the brutal fighting game saga, Shao Kahn’s forces invaded Earth, so the fighting arenas were urban environments in cities designed to resemble the saga’s creators' hometown of Chicago. While the game will not be as brutal as the original franchise, it can be expected to feature typical Mortal Kombat accessories, such as the dragon logo, an arcade machine, or perhaps a gesture or dance inspired by the signature moves.
The rest of the outfits in the pass follow an urban and criminal aesthetic, reflecting the tone of the season. In fact, a promotional image revealed by Fortnite shows these eight characters being photographed by police after being captured and booked by law enforcement. From a character with a green pickle-shaped balaclava and a large gold chain, to a mafia wolf in a striped suit, or the “Reggaeton Midas” - as the community has dubbed him - the new additions mix the intimidating with the surreal. Epic Games has been able to capitalize on this combination in previous seasons, and this one is no exception.
This new season of Fortnite promises to bring a fresh visual and gameplay experience full of surprises. The inclusion of Sub-Zero is just the beginning of what could be a series of exciting collaborations with Mortal Kombat.
