Here’s why ‘Spider-Man 4’ is in jeopardy: the fight between Tom Holland, Marvel and Sony
While Sony wants Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back, Marvel and Kevin Feige are betting on focusing on Tom Holland and an unreleased villain.
The reasons why the fourth installment of ‘Spider-Man’ starring Tom Holland is being delayed have just come to light. According to Daniel Richtman, a respected journalist who has successfully leaked several MCU news in the past, Marvel and Sony have a very different movie in mind and can’t agree on it.
Marvel Studios, led by Kevin Feige, is betting on a more “realistic” film, while Sony Pictures wants to do something “big” and is trying to bring back the Spider-Man of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. That is to say, the former wants to focus on Holland (and, according to the latest rumors, offer a villain that has never been seen on screen before), while the latter is still betting on the multiverse and nostalgia.
Whose side is Tom Holland on?
Tom Holland would be on Marvel’s side, and the actor has made it clear in the past that he would consider passing the baton to a new Spider-Man if things didn’t work out. “I feel like we hit a home run with our first trilogy, and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high,” he commented at the time. “I’m a little worried creatively.”
Although Kevin Fiege has already confirmed ‘Spider-Man 4′ and Holland seems to be ready to don the suit again, the actor keeps repeating that it has to be “the right story” and not a sequel just to make money. Who knows, if he ends up leaving the project, maybe this fourth installment would still stand, but with Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi. The author of the first great Spider-Man trilogy in theaters has also been willing to return and recently shared his conditions to leave the ball in Marvel’s court.
When will the cinemas be spinning webs again?
