Hideki Kamiya Hopes Platinum Games Will Continue Bayonetta Without Him

The Japanese creative also talks about the possibility of working with Hideo Kojima or Yoko Taro.

Update:
Bayonetta

One of the news of the year in the section of departures is the departure of Hideki Kamiya from Platinum Games, the visible face of the Japanese studio and creator or supervisor of practically all its games. His most popular saga today, Bayonetta, now faces an uncertain future after the departure of the one who was its main supporter, but Kamiya himself is clear that the adventures of the Umbra Witch will continue without him.

Not that Kamiya is completely idle now, as he has started his own YouTube channel where he shares his experiences and responds to his subscribers. In the latest episode, he talks about what’s to come with Bayonetta, and how he’s confident that Platinum Games will continue to develop the franchise after he’s gone.

“I wanted to grow the franchise as the Bayonetta ‘Saga’, but it seems like I may have to take the full saga to the grave with me,” begins the quirky Japanese creative. “It’s a shame. It’s not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suppose those who do will probably keep it going.

Kamiya talks about creating a whole saga, and he had really ambitious plans for it. “I wonder what will happen to the franchise now,” he says in response to a comment. “As I explained before, I worked on Bayonetta 1, 2, 3 and Origins. I’ve talked about this in various interviews, that the Bayonetta series would consist of a total of nine episodes.”

Would he collaborate with Kojima or Yoko Taro?

In another comment, a subscriber asks him about the possibility of working with two other Japanese development greats, such as Hideo Kojima and Yoko Taro, but Kamiya doesn’t see it clearly. “It doesn’t work like in Dragon Ball, where Goku fuses with other characters,” he answers the curious question. “Two people with completely different personalities and ideas would clash. There’s no way you’d get a decent game out of that.
