Hideo Kojima says KPop Demon Hunters made him cry: “It was so, so good”
KPop Demon Hunters, huh?

Hideo Kojima is widely recognized as both a creative force in video games and a passionate film fan. His cinematic influences are evident throughout the Metal Gear series, as well as in the way he collaborated with Hollywood talent on Death Stranding. Now, the 62-year-old game designer has shown that animation is also among his interests—and that one of the year’s biggest animated phenomena, KPop Demon Hunters, has left a strong impression on him.
This week, Kojima took to social media to reveal that he had recently dived into the world of KPop Demon Hunters and was completely swept away by the film. “I casually started watching ‘KPop Demon Hunters,’ got completely hooked, and ended up crying my eyes out by the end,” he wrote, adding a crying face emoji to emphasize the movie’s emotional impact. “It was so, so good.”

Obsessed with the soundtrack
Kojima’s enthusiasm didn’t stop once the credits rolled. He appears to be fully immersed in the film’s musical landscape as well. Following his initial praise, he posted an image showing that he was listening to “Golden,” the smash-hit song performed by the movie’s fictional group, Huntr/x.
Further cementing his status as a new fan, Kojima also retweeted a post from Variety that named “Golden” one of the best songs of 2025. The publication described the track as “the most gigantic pop song in memory,” a sentiment the game director seems to fully endorse.

We still have a long wait ahead for a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Kojima slipped a few references into his upcoming games.
