Hogwarts Legacy 2 is a priority, but there are some bad news about its release date
After being 2023′s best-sold game, a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is almost a given. But we may have to wait for a long while before we see one.
Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, an unmitigated success that, regardless, did not manage to prevent the collapse of Warner Bros. Games. The commercial failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League caused a serious imbalance that resulted in the dismissal of several Rocksteady workers, according to some media reports. Meanwhile, the title set in the Harry Potter universe hardly received any additional content, something strange in an industry that usually plans post-launch content carefully. All in all, the sequel is a reality, although it is very far from materializing.
As reported by Variety, the CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, Gunnar Wiedenfels, has specifically referred to the new installment of Hogwarts Legacy. He did so during an interview at Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference: “Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.” This suggests that the return of the players to the magic school is not close by any means.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, now available
The game, which has sold more than 22 million copies, was updated this summer with a free update, which introduced—among other things—the long-awaited Photo Mode. The developers have not announced any more story content, nor are any expansions expected at the moment. That doesn’t mean that the wizarding world will be left without games, as Warner Bros. Games has just released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, a title based on the magical sport that will be available as a free PS Plus game in the month of September.
Hogwarts Legacy is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The player controls a fifth-year Hogwarts student, chosen by his teachers to face a dangerous threat. The young man masters the power of ancient magic and will have to dismantle a revolution orchestrated by a dark wizard.
