Hollow Knight Silksong surprises fans with the announcement of its first free DLC, which will include new areas, bosses, and surprises
Team Cherry announces the ‘Song of Sorrow’ expansion alongside a new version of Hollow Knight for Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms.

Team Cherry is an indie studio that isn’t known for communicating much with players, but when they do, it’s because they have big announcements in store. This was demonstrated just this morning with the announcement of Song of Sorrow, an expansion for Hollow Knight Silksong that will arrive in 2026 and will be completely free for all players. The studio released a first look of this update and confirmed that it will include new areas, bosses, tools, and much more, all in a nautical-themed setting. Could there be even more difficult water levels than in the base game?
Well, we’ll have to wait and see, as the studio confirmed that it won’t be sharing any more information about Song of Sorrow until shortly before its official release. What they did confirm is that there are still details that they are keeping under wraps. On the other hand, Team Cherry revealed that Hollow Knight Silksong has already sold more than 7 million units worldwide, not counting the millions of people who enjoyed the title through Game Pass.
The original Hollow Knight will have a new version with improvements for all platforms
But wait, because Team Cherry still had more announcements to share with us. In addition to the news about Silksong, the company revealed that the original Hollow Knight will have a specific version for Nintendo Switch 2, which will also be released in 2026 and will be completely free for those who already own the game on Switch. The version for Nintendo’s new console will offer the possibility of playing with higher fps, higher resolution, and various graphic effects.

Finally, the Australian studio revealed that they are working on an update for Hollow Knight on other platforms in order to add some new features and fix bugs. PS users can already access some of these patches through the Steam public beta, which add support for 16:10/21:9 aspect ratios. Things never stop happening at Team Cherry!
