‘House of the Dragon’ deleted one of the most exciting battles of Westeros

The second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ disappointed fans by skipping over the battle that would kick off the Dance of Dragons.

La Casa del Dragón Temporada 2 polémica batalla omitida libro HBO

House of the Dragon’ has disappointed part of the community. Many expected that this second season would capture the battle that begins the well-known dance of dragons. However, in the third episode they have done it in a quite different way.

HBO omits the battle that starts the great conflict of ‘The House of the Dragon’

The episode begins with a seemingly normal dispute between young people. Some from House Blackwood; others, however, from House Bracken. Soon we learn that the confrontation goes beyond a youth disagreement. They transmit a deep hatred of their rival simply because of the shield that each side supports. The camera focuses on one of them, already consecrated as a knight. A close-up overflowing with life that, behind the black curtain, gives way to the other extreme. The young man, now older, lies deceased like another corpse among the hundreds of thousands found at the foot of the burned mill.

HBO has avoided producing a confrontation that is apparently external to the dispute between Targaryens, but which is actually quite linked. His position in the conflict for the Iron Throne is the spark that the conflict between both Houses needed to be able to raise steel against the other. The Battle of the Burning Mill left a trail of blood as a premonition of what was to come.

Already in the past, they did the same during the first battles of ‘Game of Thrones’. The ninth episode of the first season, called ‘Baelor’, showed Tyrion Lannister during the charge of the King’s forces at the Battle of the Green Gallows. However, he received a blow to the head that left him unconscious. When he woke up we saw the result of the fight. The disappointment was logical among fans, since it was the first confrontation of the Stark troops on their march towards King’s Landing. But we only saw the result.

Reactions on social networks have not been long in coming. “I think the decision to not show absolutely anything on screen about one of the first battles of the Dance of Dragons seems terrible, one that also has a special symbolic value as a breakup of the kingdom”, said one of the users. Of course, in the next episode we will see a key moment that has already been anticipated in the trailer: the taking of Harrenhal.
