House of the Dragon Renewed for Third Season, “The Dance of the Dragons Continues”
Ahead of this weekend’s premiere of House of the Dragon Season 2, HBO makes a resounding announcement that the Game of Thrones spin-off will continue.
The ravens have been sent... Or rather, the dragon, to spread the good news throughout the Seven Kingdoms. HBO has announced what was an open secret, ‘House of the Dragon’ will continue and will be renewed for a Season 3.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the official ‘House of the Dragon’ account released a powerful message: “The dance of the dragons continues. #HouseOfTheDragon has been renewed for Season 3 on @StreamOnMax.” For now, there are no details on when this third season will arrive, which will continue the impressive civil war between the sides created in the Targaryen family to take the Iron Throne.
Through a press release, HBO Programming Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi wrote: “George [R.R. Martin], Ryan [Condal], and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon. We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
The Green Council vs. the Black Council
The Dance of the Dragons is a civil war between two sides, each defending one of the two Targaryen monarchs. The Blacks rally around Rhaenyra Targaryen, with houses as powerful as Velaryon and Arryn. The Greens are supporters of Aegon II Targaryen. The reason the sides are named this way is symbolic, as it is a reference to the colors of the dresses Alicent and Rhaenyra wore at one of the court celebrations.
Ahead of the premiere of Season 2, we were able to speak with representatives of both sides, Tom Glynn-Carney and Ewan Mitchell, who play Aegon II Targaryen and Aemond Targaryen for the Green Council, and Eve Best and Steve Toussaint, who play Rhaenys Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon for the Black Council. Don’t miss our interviews.
‘House of the Dragon’ will premiere on Max this weekend, on June 16. From ‘Fire and Blood’ will be a second series about the conquest of Aegon I Targaryen.
