House of the Dragon Season 1 Recap: What happened to the characters and dragon owners

The war between Rhaenyra and Alicent is heating up in ‘House of the Dragon’, with Season 2 coming very soon, so let’s recap what’s happened so far.

House of the Dragon Season 1 Recap: What happened to the characters and dragon owners

Two years after the release of the first season, ‘House of the Dragon’ is finally returning this year, set to become one of the biggest phenomenons of the summer for entertainment. The ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off shows us an internal conflict between Targaryens, set hundreds of years before the events of the original show and the novels. And at the end of the first season, war was about the break out.

How did the first season of ‘House of the Dragon’ end?

The first season of ‘House of Dragon’ narrated the political intrigues caused amongst the Targaryen house by the succession of King Viserys. Although the king had chosen his daughter Rhaenyra as heir to the throne, he married her best friend, Alicent Hightower, and had a son with her, Aegon II, whom his mother did not hesitate to promote as his true successor.

At the end of the first season, Alicent and the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard, Criston Cole (Rhaneyra’s former lover), managed to name Aegon II king before the people, while Rhaenyra did the same and also proclaimed herself queen among her followers (including her sadistic uncle Daemon). Tension grew between both sides and exploded with the death of the son of Rhaenyra, Lucerys, at the hands of Alicent’s second son, Aemond. An offense that, in short, gave rise to a civil war in house Targaryen.

It will be that war, known as the Dance of Dragons, around which this season will revolve. As the conflict advances, the result will be a rain of fire and blood from which no one will emerge unscathed except the viewer.

What to expect from Season 2?

War, betrayal, murder, and dragons are all safe bets about what we could be looking at when Season 2 finally arrives. And while we can only guess for now, we won’t have to wait for much longer as HBO and Max have just confirmed Season 2 is having its premiere on June 16, 2024.

Above you can see the official “Black Trailer” for Season 2, which is only one of two teasers released by Max for the upcoming season. Why two? Because it’s time to choose a side: either you stand with Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen (Black team), or you support Alicent Hightower and her children, Aegon and Aemond (Green Team).

Season 2 of ‘House of the Dragon’ will have 8 episodes in total, with the producers having already confirmed that there will be no time skips during this season, unlike last time. Besides this, we know that House Stark and Winterfell will make an appearance.
