‘House of the Dragon’: These are the dragons and riders that will fight in the war for the Iron Throne

Rhaenyra Targaryen and her side have gained new riders for their dragons, what does the roster look like before the Dance of the Dragons?

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen’s situation is desperate. She does not have enough dragons to defeat the Greens on the battlefield, especially since Vhagar, the Prince Regent’s dragon, is the most monstrous beast in the Seven Kingdoms. A desperate situation calls for a desperate solution. The monarch needs riders for the reptiles that have yet to be claimed, but she has no more Targaryen at her disposal, so she looks to the bastards of the dynasty for possible candidates. Episode 7 of ‘House of the Dragon’ solves this problem once and for all... at least for now.

After Vhagar, Vermithor is the greatest dragon, perhaps the fiercest. He proves it from the moment he rejects the first challenger, whom he burns on the spot along with other bastards. The dragon spits fire, chews bone and skin, and rebels against those who have dared to disturb him. And then Hugh acts bravely, stands in front of the beast and makes it recognize him as its rider. On the other hand, the braggart Ulf gets into trouble and moves blindly through the dragon’s lair. This is where Silverwing meets him. Instead of eating him, a bond is formed between the two.

On the side of the greens

There are still a few dragons left to claim. Rhaena Targaryen, Daemon’s daughter, is desperate for a dragon. She has been rejected in the past, but all indications are that she will be able to bond with Sheepstealer, a wild dragon. Cannibal and Grey Ghost have nested in Dragonstone, but have yet to be seen. What of Sunfyre, the animal of Aegon II Targaryen? His fate seems to have been different from the book, where he survives the Dance of the Dragons.

There is only one episode left in the second season of ‘House of the Dragon’.
