House of the Dragon: Who are the Greens and the Blacks?

The Targaryen civil war is firing up in the series’ second season, which is set to debut on Max on June 16.

By the time Viserys I Targaryen breathes his last, the conspirators have already set their plan in motion. Princess Rhaenyra was on Dragonstone, despite having been designated as successor to the throne by her father. Taking advantage of this situation, Queen Consort Alicent Hightower and her allies act quickly to crown Aegon II and usurp the crown. It is the beginning of a bloody civil war in Westeros, which will turn the Seven Kingdoms red and which will raise the fight to the heavens, where the Dance of Dragons is performed. In the second season of ‘House of the Dragon’, the latest trailers focus on the two sides of the race, the Greens and the Blacks, who are fighting to seat their candidate on the Iron Throne.

At the end of the first season, Princess Rhaenys warns Rhaenyra that her throne has been stolen. Therefore, the heiress is crowned by her allies on Dragonstone. Shortly after, he sends his son Lucerys as an emissary, with the misfortune that he encounters Aemond Targaryen, determined to collect his debt by tearing out one of his eyes. On his dragon Vhagar, he pursues the young man, who flies on the back of Arrax, a much smaller reptile than the one ridden by his opponent. Although Aemond did not intend to kill him, his mount ignores his orders and, enraged, violently attacks Arrax: The dragon and rider fall into the void without any chance of survival. And when Rhaenyra receives the news, her look says it all: fire and blood.

The Dance of Dragons is a civil war between two sides, each defending one of the two Targaryen monarchs. The Blacks gather around Rhaenyra Targaryen., with houses as powerful as Velaryon and Arryn, although later changes occur in the alliances and the Velaryions change their side. The Greens, for their part, are supporters of Aegon II Targaryen. The reason the sides are named this way is symbolic, as it is a reference to the colors of the dresses that Alicent and Rhaenyra wore at one of the court celebrations.
