How did Assassin’s Creed Shadows compare to the franchise as a whole?

The thirteenth game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise arrives tomorrow, but how does it compare to the other titles that have shaped the saga’s history?

How did Assassin’s Creed Shadows compare to the franchise as a whole?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is about to arrive, taking fans back to feudal Japan for an adventure in the duality between samurai and ninja. Yesterday, international critics gave their first reviews: our colleagues in Spain gave it an 8.6, while our Oliver Betancourt called it “one of the best works from Ubisoft in recent years, they seem to have heard the players, and went back to some roots, while improving the game’s mechanics with a bet on a dual-player gameplay that gives players more choices on how they want to go through this adventure in Japan”.

The development of this title by Ubisoft Quebec has been surrounded by some controversy among fans due to it’s characters and depictions of the era. This, along with some delays, made the expectations for the game to be reserved. However, after the release of the reviews yesterday, Assassin’s Creed Shadows' average on Metacritic is 81 (at the time of writing). But how does it compare to its predecessors?

Assassin’s Creed ranking on Metacritic:

  1. Assassin’s Creed II - 90
  2. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood - 89
  3. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag - 88
  4. Assassin’s Creed III - 84
  5. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey - 83
  6. Assassin’s Creed Origins - 81
  7. Assassin’s Creed Shadows - 81
  8. Assassin’s Creed - 81
  9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - 80
  10. Assassin’s Creed Revelations - 80
  11. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate - 76
  12. Assassin’s Creed Unity - 72
  13. Assassin’s Creed Rogue - 72

Although Assassin’s Creed Shadows does not reach the highest scores of the franchise -particularly the classics Assassin’s Creed II and Brotherhood-, its good reviews consolidate it as one of the best recent releases of the franchise.
