How to fix the Diablo IV ‘unable to find a valid license’ error

Blizzard has just launched the first expansion for Diablo IV, ‘Vessel of Hatred’, but as is expected with such big releases some issues have popped up that won’t allow players in.

Diablo IV is once again facing launch issues, this time due to the release of its first-ever expansion, “Vessel of Hatred”. While many expected to jump in and immediately get to try out the new Spiritborn class in the hunt for Mephisto, what they-re being presented with instead is an error message telling them that they don’t own the expansion, even when they have already purchased it.

As the game won’t recognize that some players have access to the content they’ve purchased, those affected are essentially locked out of the new expansion on the week of its release. Is this issue fixable? What can you do if you’re not able to play as the new class after buying the game?

How to fix the Diablo IV license error

Veteran Diablo IV players may recall a similar issue that occurred during the launch of the base game, in which they would get an error message with the code 315306 and the warning “unable to find a valid license”. This specific error happened due to the massive influx of players flooding the newly opened servers. At that time, the developers came out to ask players to be patient as the servers stabilized a bit before this issue resolving itself.

It appears as though this new issue with Vessel of Hatred is very similar, if not the exact same one. However, the devs have announced that they “have identified the issue and have a fix in flight for testing. The plan is for this to be in our next hotfix.” This means that players affected will have to wait until the fix is released and their game is updated again to be able to play.

When will this happen? It could be hours, or it could end up being a few days. But for now other than waiting, Diablo Community Manager Adam Fletcher has a simple workaround you can try to see if it works:

If that doesn’t work, you can always try what is now the established process for dealing with error code 315306:
