How to transfer data from one Nintendo Switch to another: user profile, game saves and more

There are users who have two or more consoles, either because they have different models or because they have a special edition like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Do you know how to transfer your data?

The Nintendo Switch has been on the market since March 17, 2017. Several years have passed and it is not surprising that many users have more than one: those who buy the Lite and/or OLED models and keep the original, or those who have waited for special editions such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Splatoon 3 or Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. If this is your case, did you know that you can transfer your data from one console to another to enjoy your user profile and game saves? Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it.

How to transfer data from one Nintendo Switch to another

  1. In addition to having both consoles turned on, updated to the latest firmware, and plugged in (just in case one of them has a low battery), the first thing you need to do is to have a stable Internet (Wi-Fi) connection connected to both machines. Note that you can’t transfer screenshots or recorded videos. With everything ready, just follow the steps below.
  2. From the source console (the one that has the user and the data you want to send to another), go to Configuration Menu > User Profile > User Transfer and select the user you want to transfer, if you have more than one.
  3. On the receiving console (to which you want to send your data), if it is being turned on for the first time, you will need to go to the same menu until you find the option to import a user from another Nintendo Switch. When you press continue on both machines and complete the process, you will need to log in with the user’s information (email and password) on the console that just received it. Game save data will be automatically migrated along with the profile transfer.
