How will Season 2 of ‘The Last of Us’ be affected by Pedro Pascal’s injury?

HBO’s chief of content assures fans that Pedro Pascal’s recent shoulder problem shouldn’t affect the production of ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2

With the end of the Hollywood actors and scriptwriters’ strikes, work resumed on upcoming big series and films, although in the case of ‘The Last of Us’, alarm bells have recently gone off. Pedro Pascal (Joel) appeared at the Emmys -and later at the Golden Globes- with his arm in a sling, which has made fans suspect that the production and filming of the second season will be delayed even further.

What happened to Pedro Pascal’s arm and how will it affect the filming of ‘The Last of Us’?

During the show, Pascal did not give any details about a reason or the severity of his injury, although days later, in an interview, he would admit that his arm was broken. This injury was due to a fall down the stairs of his house, confessing that he would also have to undergo surgery to facilitate the healing of the fracture, and that it will be soon... almost coinciding with the filming of the second season of ‘The Last of Us’.

How will the team solve this setback? No way has been finalized, but Casey Bloys, head of content at HBO, stated in an interview with Variety that they have it in mind. “I think figured out a way,” Bloys said. “I can’t tell you exactly what the production plan is. But I know that they have taken that into account. I don’t even know the exact nature of the injury, but I know that production has figured out a way to work around it.”

That said, it’s thought that this setback should not affect the filming of the second season of the series, which should premiere, if there are no further unforeseen events, around the first months of 2025. Meanwhile, the first season is now available in full on HBO Max.
