Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are leading the race to host the next Academy Awards

The success of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ at the box office is undeniable. The Marvel Studios film revitalized the superhero genre and grossed over $1.3 billion at the box office on a budget of $200m. Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, who played the titular heroes, rushed into the spotlight of the industry, which is now leading them to be the protagonists of the next gala of the Oscars. On March 2, 2025, the 97th Academy Awards will be celebrated, and as of today, the two stars are the favorites to be the masters of ceremony. As reported by World Of Reel, both actors have been offered a significant sum of money to be the presenters of the event.

Who have been the previous hosts of the Oscars?

Jackman and Reynolds wouldn’t be the only couple to be the main presenters at the Oscars gala. In 2021, Ariana DeBose (who would win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress the following year) and Lil Rel Howery were in charge, as did James Franco and Anne Hathaway in 2011, and Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin in 2010. Of the most popular hosts, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal are the ones that have remained best in the collective imagination, especially in the 90s and 2000s. Recently, comedian Jimmy Kimmel has emerged as a popular option in the Academy.

Although Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds could present the gala, it doesn’t seem like ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ will win any statuette, although it could be nominated for an Oscar. Marvel Studios has achieved 37 nominations and has only won 7 awards. The most awarded was ‘Black Panther’ (2018), which received the statuette for production design, costume design, and soundtrack.
