Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine had a quick cameo in Fox’s “Fantastic Four” movie from 2005
We look back at a deleted scene that’s gone unnoticed by many in which Hugh Jackman makes a quick appearance, bringing a bit of X-Men to the Fantastic Four.
‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ has opened the doors to Marvel’s superhero multiverse after the previous more or less successful attempts of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. A way of understanding different realities and variants of characters that draw on the craziest and most unexpected cameos possible, as the latest film of the Merc with a Mouth has shown. But long before, Fox had already played with shared universes through the licenses they had under their belt during the early 2000s, before the Disney acquisition. So much so, that ‘Fantastic Four’ already used that same resource with a deleted scene in which Reed Richards briefly transformed into Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine that very few people know about.
Wolverine’s secret cameo in Fox’s ‘Fantastic Four’
The scene in question is in the 2005 film adaptation of the most powerful and iconic family in Marvel Comics, ‘Fantastic Four’, which had Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards, Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm, in addition to big villain Victor Von Doom played by Julian McMahon, In a deleted scene there was a fleeting cameo by Hugh Jackman himself; or rather the appearance of his face via CGI.
In this scene we see Mr. Fantastic talking to the Invisible Woman, in which Sue assures Reed that Nothing ever happened between her and Von Doom on a sentimental level. At that moment the leader of the F4 responds “I guess that’s what I thought you always wanted. A stronger man”. At that moment, the actor’s face changes to that of Hugh Jackman characterized as the Wolverine from the first X-Men movies, with the plastic-looking CGI of the time.
Although this scene was not shown in cinemas - since its director chose to remove it from the final footage-, it was included in the home DVD edition as part of the extended version of ‘Fantastic Four’, so not everyone remembers it or has seen it. Be that as it may, this wink did not go beyond an anecdote and did not initiate any crossover between the F4 and the mutants, even though at that time they were Marvel licenses in the hands of Fox.
