Update:

The road to release for Hytale has been nothing short of a rollercoaster for its dedicated community. Originally announced in December 2018 with a trailer that shattered records—amassing an incredible 62 million views—the game promised a fresh, dynamic take on the voxel sandbox genre popularized by Minecraft. However, the journey was fraught with obstacles. After being acquired by Riot Games in 2020, the project slipped into development hell, culminating in a heartbreaking announcement in June 2025 that the game had been canceled completely.

But in a twist worthy of a video game storyline, Hytale was been revived. Following a sale back to one of the original co-founders last November, the project is not only back on track but is launching in Early Access on PC tomorrow, January 13.

How to Play and What to Expect

For gamers eager to jump in, it is crucial to note that Hytale is forging its own path regarding distribution. The game will not be available on Steam or the Epic Games Store. To play, you must visit the official Hytale website, select “Download for Windows,” and install their dedicated launcher.

Simon Collins-Laflamme, the returning co-founder, anticipates a massive influx of users, predicting “over one million players on the early access release day.” To ensure a smooth experience and maximize your playtime, he advises fans to download the launcher and log in immediately. Doing so now will help “significantly reduce launch-day stress” on the servers, meaning you can get straight to building and exploring when the doors open.

When does Hytale launches in the United States?

The servers are scheduled to go live simultaneously around the world. Here is when you can start your adventure on Tuesday, January 13, 2026:

  • 10:00 AM EST
  • 9:00 AM CST
  • 7:00 AM PST
