Worrying reports of players losing access to their digital purchases on PlayStation 5 have started popping up in the past few weeks, with a very specific error message seemingly erasing the digital licenses of users, resulting in major issues with their accounts.

Last week, Reddit user dSuds2342 posted a warning on r/playstation in which he shared the problematic bug and how it seemingly worked. According to the Redditor, this bug results on the user’s account being somehow “desynchronized” from PlayStation’s servers and losing access to almost all of their digital games. They claim that while you’re able to see the games in your transaction history, they completely dissapear from the “Purchased” menu, and if you try to download any of these games you’ll be asked to buy them again or add them fro the PS Plus extra or premium catalog, but when trying to do so you’ll get a warning claiming that you already own the game.

The bug even makes affected games in your console show a padlock icon, signaling that you’re no longer able to play them. Dsuds2342 claims he tried to launch Helldivers II when he got error message CE-117773-6. When he googled for an answer, they found that they should use an option called “Restore Licences” that typically helps users restore access in these kinds of situation, but they now believe this is exactly what triggered the bug.

What to do if you get error message CE-117773-6?

Should you get this error message, the best you can do is two things:

  • DO NOT use the “Restore Licenses” option on your account settings. Doing so may worsen the effects of the bug, completely locking you out of this.
  • DO Contact PlayStation support. Explain the problem and provide proof of the matter, either by taking pictures or video of your library showing the issue.

While initially, Sony seemed slow to respond to the plea of those affected, reports have started to suggest that they’re now actively working to fix these issues. There is currently no way of knowing exactly what is triggering this bug, so the best you can do is stay alert and contact Customer Support as quickly as possible.
