Ian McKellen has already been asked to reprise Gandalf in the upcoming ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies

Sir Ian McKellen has remained the fans’ choice for playing Gandalf, and it seems like the studio knows this, as they want him in Peter Jackson’s new Lord of the Rings movies.

Millions of fans around the world jumped for joy upon hearing the news that there is still much to come related to the work of J. R. R. Tolkien. After the premiere of ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’, the animated film based on the universe of Peter Jackson’s trilogy, Andy Serkis will return to play his famous character in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’, but he might not be the only popular comeback.

Viggo Mortensen has already spoken on repeated occasions about the possibility of stepping back into Aragorn’s shoes, but the fact that ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ is a prequel makes it difficult, making the actor not 100% convinced. But another one that is expected to appear on the screen again is none other than Sir Ian McKellen, the legendary Gandalf. The British actor has confirmed that talks have already begun for his return.

The legendary Gandalf is ready to return

Enthusiasm for The Lord of the Rings shows no sign of abating … I can’t tell you any more than that,” McKellen said to The Big Issue.”I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him.”

“When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So, they better be quick,” he said, confirming between the lines that he would be up for the work, but that taking into account his age (85 years old), it better be soon.
