Ian McKellen reveals ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollums’ will release in two parts
Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Ring universe is coming back to the big screen, and if Gandalf himself is to be believed, ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ will be a two-part epic.
‘The Lord of the Rings’ is one of those series that never goes out of style, but in recent years the phenomenon has not stopped growing thanks to all the productions that are being created around the work of J.R.R. Tolkien. One of the most hotly anticipated is ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, the film directed by Andy Serkis, who played the mythical character in the movie trilogy and who will have Peter Jackson as the producer of the film. Many names have been thrown around the film and Ian McKellen seems intent in returning in the role of Gandalf.
The British actor appeared on ‘This Morning’, a morning show that has been broadcast continuously in the United Kingdom since 1988, and where the hosts did not hesitate to ask Sir Ian McKellen about ‘The Lord of the Rings’. That’s when the actor spoke about his desire to return to New Zealand, a very special place because of everything he did in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy, and announced that ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ will have two films and the script will be ready at some point in the beginning of 2025.
Ian McKellen and his dream return to Tolkien’s universe
No one can imagine any other actor playing Gandalf other than Ian McKellen, although the Knight did not hesitate to answer that question on ‘This Morning’ by pointing out that there have been two Dumbledore’s. The reason why the latter happened did not allow any other option, but luckily for Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson, the possibility of McKellen returning with the most notable character of his career is there and he could do so alongside old acquaintances from the original cast.
