Idris Elba’s Knuckles is getting its own live-action series before the release of Sonic 3

After the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, its writer and director are ready to bring fans a series all about Idris Elba’s Knuckles before the release of the third film in 2024.

These are good times for Sonic fans! Variety has just confirmed that the Knuckles live-action series announced over a year ago, is finally underway in London. Idris Elba will return to give life to Sonic’s rival, just as he did in the movies, but we will not only have him but also Adam Pally, who will play his partner, agent Wade Whipple, again.

The showrunner of the series will be John Whittington, who wrote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and in its writer’s table will have the help of Brian Schacter (The Departed, The Fellows) and James Madejski (The Adventures of Doctor Dolittle). The story will be set between the second movie and the third, the latter scheduled for release on December 20, 2024 in theaters.

The director of the first episode will be Jeff Fowler, responsible for the two previous Sonic films, and the artistic team will include the additions of Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Scott Mescudi (Don’t look up), Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso) and Rory McCann (The Hound in Game of Thrones).

The knuckles series is coming to Paramount+ in early 2024, receiving the green light in the middle of the golden age of the hedgehog. At the end of last year we saw the launch of Sonic Frontiers, the highest rated installment of the franchise in three dimensions —alongside Sonic Colors— ever since the classic Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast, and at the beginning of this month we had a surprise gift, The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, an original and incredibly fun visual novel that was born as an April Fools Day joke, is completely free, and surprised every kind of fan the blue blur has ever had.
