Hangar 13

If you liked this key aspect of the old Mafia: The Old Country will not disappoint: this is how long it will take you to finish it

The game developed by Hangar 13 abandons the open world and returns to a linear experience.

Update:

The fact that Mafia: The Old Country is on sale at a reduced price has raised some suspicions about the length of the game. However, the $49.99 price tag does not mean that the title will be shorter than previous installments. This, at least, has been explained by Nick Baynes, president of Hangar 13, the studio behind its development (via IGN).

According to Baynes, no one should worry about the game’s quality or length, as it’s a “Mafia I, Mafia II style experience,” which means the game can be completed in about 10 hours or more, depending on how much the player spends exploring and grabbing collectibles scattered around the world. “That’s roughly the same scope and scale as this game, and I think hopefully, I don’t think anyone’s going to be disappointed” if they go in with those expectations.

A return to the origins

Unlike Mafia 3, the most controversial title of the saga, Hangar 13 has decided to return to the origins, not only in terms of plot, but also in terms of gameplay. The studio has chosen to build a narrative and linear game, leaving behind the open world of the third installment.

Mafia: The Old Country is set in early 20th-century Sicily, when many Italians began to emigrate to the United States. Back in Italy, the mafias dominated the territory and fought each other for power and respect. In this context takes place the story of Enzo, a young man who, due to unexpected circumstances, is put at the service of Don Torrisi, one of the local mafia bosses.

The title will be available on August 8 on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Hangar 13 has left behind the usual graphics engine of the franchise and has opted for Unreal Engine 5, a change of technology that many developers have opted for in this generation.
