Image of a Death Trooper in Star Wars Outlaws leaked: this is what they look like and this is their story
They are a special division of Stormtroopers who wear black armor and specialize in intelligence missions.
Star Wars Outlaws, the new video game in the saga developed by Ubisoft, takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, during the final phase of the Galactic Empire. After decades of rule, Emperor Palpatine has armed himself to the teeth and crushed any act of rebellion with a firm hand. The protagonist of the new title, Kay Vess, is not part of any rebel group - at least not at first - but her status as a bounty hunter doesn’t make her a friend of the Imperials. According to leaks, Death Troopers will be present in the video game, another danger for the protagonist.
The image (already deleted from Twitter) was shared by leaker Visceral, who assured that it belongs to an old trailer that was never released. According to the screenshot, it is pre-alpha footage, which suggests that development was not too far along at the time. The fact that the footage is old could mean there are changes to the final version. There was no Death Trooper in the teaser trailer, although Star Wars Outlaws will be shown again during the Ubisoft Forward on June 10th, which is part of the Summer Game Fest 2024.
A unit that specializes in stealth and infiltration
Many confuse the Shadow Troopers with the Death Troopers because they both wear black armor. While the former were created in the Expanded Universe, the latter were created in the Disney canon. In Legends, the Shadow Troopers were a division of clones, while the Death Troopers are a unit specializing in infiltration and espionage, and are therefore closely associated with Imperial Intelligence. Because of their specialty, the recruits are able to cover their tracks and eliminate any clues that might lead others to discover their activities. They inspire fear, not only because they operate in the shadows, but also because of their imposing armor and their level of specialization in all manner of combat tactics. In addition, they are often integrated into commandos or act as bodyguards.
The Death Trooper unit was created by order of Palpatine, who put Gideon in charge of the project. He is the villain of “The Mandalorian” before calling himself Moff - he never was during the Emperor’s lifetime - and acting as a warlord. This unit appears in the Disney+ series because Moff Gideon developed a particular fondness for this type of Stormtrooper. The Imperial was also in charge of the Dark Trooper project, which went through several phases: first, it was a special armor for human pilots, but in the third phase, seen in the second season of The Mandalorian, the Dark Troopers are battle droids.
Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 29th on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC. Ubisoft will release the game in several different editions, which can be found here.
