Interactive map of cities that will be submerged by 2100 due to climate change.

Global warming is estimated to wipe out several populations within a few decades. Louisiana would be one of the hardest hit.

Update:
Interactive map of cities that will be submerged by 2100 due to climate change.

They say that the end of the world will come in about 5 billion years because the sun will increase in size by a factor of 100 and become a red giant. These are frightening estimates, although there is no need to worry, since everyone will die long before then, whether from natural causes or other causes. What we need to take more seriously are the effects that climate change is beginning to have on the Earth, especially in terms of rising sea levels.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the worst-case scenario is a sea level rise of up to two meters, which could completely submerge several cities. Louisiana would be one of the hardest hit areas, along with parts of California, Florida and Washington. Latin America is another region that should be quaking in its boots.

Reading the map consists of looking at the blue colors that are estimated to occupy what is now dry land by the year 2100. These areas will be underwater if the predictions come true. Virtually the entire world, except for several regions of the United States, is completely out of harm’s way. Coastal cities will be most affected in a few years.

Which cities would be the first to be under the sea by 2100?

According to the IPCC, Louisiana, California, Florida, and Washington will be one of the first to be affected. Latin America will also have several places that should pay attention to this study, since according to this map (blue zones) in the year 2100, areas such as San Juan in Puerto Rico will be submerged if these predictions come true.

The country most affected in these estimates is the United States with cities such as

  • New Orleans
  • Atlantic City
  • Boston
  • Hawaii
  • Jacksonville
  • Miami
  • New York City
  • Portland
