Is ‘Baby Reindeer’ real? This is the story the Netflix series is based on
Richard Gadd, creator of the hit series, was inspired by a disturbing true story he experienced himself.
Among all the new movies and series on Netflix, there is one work that has debuted very well, as it has automatically become one of the most watched on the platform. It is ‘Baby Reindeer’, a surprising series that combines drama and mystery.
The synopsis of the series is as follows: “When a struggling comedian shows one act of kindness to a vulnerable woman, it sparks a suffocating obsession which threatens to wreck both their lives.” Did you know that ‘Baby Reindeer’ is based on a disturbing true story? The series was created by Richard Gadd, who is also a comedian, and who suffered in his own flesh the delicate story he decided to capture in the Netflix series.
The Stalking Story Behind ‘Baby Reindeer’
Several years ago, Richard Gadd was stalked by a woman who became unhealthily obsessed with him, to the point of calling him ‘Baby Reindeer’. At first, Gadd decided not to make a big deal out of it, but things got more and more complicated.
The stalker decided to contact Gadd through various channels, sending him more than 40,000 emails, nearly 1,000 messages on X (Twitter), several dozen through Facebook chat, and even letters to his physical mailbox. Despite this barrage of messages, Gadd says his friends continued to joke about it, but the worst was yet to come. Gadd began to be physically harassed, with the woman in question following him down the street and even waiting outside his front door.
Richard Gadd has explained that the world of cinema tends to romanticize bullying, but we must not forget that it is something very serious, as it is a form of mental illness. That is why he decided to show the world a real case through a television series: his own.
