Is the dark wizard in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ actually Saruman?

In the second season of The Rings of Power, we saw The Stranger come face to face with a mysterious and evil sorcerer, but is he supposed to be Saruman?

El Señor de los Anillos: Los Anillos de Poder

A dark wizard rules the lands of Rhûn. With brown hair, thick eyebrows, and a long beard, the sorcerer is reminiscent of Christopher Lee’s Saruman, but is he really the same Istar? It is said that Saruman was a wise and benevolent wizard who succumbed to Sauron’s temptation. and who ended up becoming his faithful lackey. His fall occurred a long time after the story told in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, but the Amazon Studios series has very loosely adapted the work of Professor J.R.R. Tolkien. For this reason, many have suspected that the identity of the sorcerer could correspond to that of the white wizard.

In ‘The Rings of Power’, the dark wizard is presented as an evil character, but his identity is not revealed in any of the episodes of season 2. In an interview with Vanity Fair, showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have confirmed whether or not the character is Saruman. “No, no, I’m going to comment on something. on the record. “No, no, I’ll say something on the record. Given the history of Middle-earth, it would be highly, highly, highly improbable that this could be Saruman.,” McKay said. “If not impossible,” added Payne.

The unknown wizard, crucial to the fate of Middle Earth

According to McKay, the dark wizard “has an important role to play in the doings of Middle-earth,” so Gandalf will have to face him before turning his attention to Sauron. “the Dark Wizard’s fate is not decided and his name is not out there yet, but it would almost defy the laws of gravity and physics for it to be Saruman.” The other Shownunner also mentions Radagast and the two remaining blue wizards, but has preferred not to go further in his reflection, so we will have to wait for future seasons to discover the truth about the wizards.

However, the identity of The Stranger actually has been uncovered. As many had predicted, the character is Gandalf the Grey. The first two seasons of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ are available on Amazon Prime Video.
