Steam

It was rated as one of the worst games in history, and now, 20 years later, it’s on Steam

The same game from 20 years ago, now with more ironic reviews.

Update:

The disgrace of being considered one of the worst video games in history is something no game wants to have. And yet, there are some brave people who, despite the stumbles, have decided to re-release the same game in the hopes that it will be better received. Such is the case with Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, which debuted in 2003 with a Metacritic rating of 8 out of 100 and is now back on Steam for users to discover.

The return of one of the worst games in history

The title proposes the player to drive a semi-trailer truck across the United States, from Portland Oregon to Miami Florida. And if you’re wondering if it’s a remake of the original, the answer is no. Just watch the trailer. Just take a look at the trailer, which, even though it’s in 4K, shows us a game in a resolution that’s more than 20 years old. But hey, it does boast that this version has Steam achievements and leaderboard support... along with its impressive Metacritic score.

Strangely enough, at the time of writing, the game has a “Mostly Positive” rating with 190 reviews on the game’s Steam page. This doesn’t mean that the game has improved, but if you look at the comments, you can find all the irony possible from people who can’t believe that this kind of game makes it to the platform.

Among the tags in which the game appears are Psychological Horror, Racing, Memes, Funny, Horror, Souls-like and Physics, among others. And well, the comments are what you would expect. Among the completely sarcastic ones, some mention that the game is “perfection” or “This game is more than just a meme or a gag, it’s now a piece of gaming history”.

The most thoughtful, however, comes from a user named harry, who mentions aspects such as “There are no enhancements or changes to the original game files at all. Beyond making you feel like you’re running some kind of virus, it is genuinely a useless addition to this release. It is very transparently a sketchy cash grab from a weird company that has popped up out of nowhere.”
