It's not a new Horizon, but it could pass for one: this is the new survival game that plagiarizes Guerrilla's saga

This survival game is clearly inspired by Horizon, can PlayStation and Guerrilla denounce?

Don’t even bother wiping your glasses or rubbing your eyes: Light of Motiram is a new game, not a new installment in the Horizon franchise. This is the title presented by Polaris Quest, one of the studios owned by Tencent Games, which without hesitation had no qualms about being influenced - to use a euphemism - by the famous Guerrilla saga to develop this new survival game. The inspirations, again a euphemism, go beyond the setting and the design of characters and creatures, and other aspects such as animations or gameplay elements are undeniably reminiscent of the adventures of Aloy.

“In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses,” reads the official description of the game, which will also feature multiplayer elements. “Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals.”

In fact, the description could perfectly apply to any game in the genre, such as Sons of the Forest, ARK, Conan Exiles, etc... But we’ll leave that for you to see for yourself.

At the moment, Light of Motiram is confirmed only for PC, being already available to add to the wish list of Steam and Epic Games Store. Its release on Xbox Series is not yet confirmed, while something tells us that, for whatever reason, it will not come to PlayStation 5.

Can PlayStation and Guerrilla Games take legal action?

Of course they can, but that does not necessarily mean that a hypothetical complaint will result in compensation or, in the most extreme case, the withdrawal of the game. In the same year, we had a similar and very popular case, such as Palworld, a title that was accused of plagiarizing Pokémon, and whose lawsuit against its creators, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, took months to prepare, a sign that not everything is so simple.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company decided to ask for 10 million yen for patent infringement, and at the moment no date has been set for the start of the trial, as everything points to it ending up in court, given the almost impossible agreement between the two and Pocketpair.
