It’s official: Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s developers are working on a ‘Lord of the Rings’ game
Following the cancellation of the MMO, Warhorse Studios confirms an RPG set in Middle-earth and, at the same time, reveals that it is already developing a new Kingdom Come: Deliverance adventure.

It’s been a mixed bag for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ fans in recent weeks. The disappointment caused by the cancellation of the MMO based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s saga is now being offset by some great news. Warhorse Studios, known for creating Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has just confirmed the rumors: they are already working on a role-playing game set in Middle-earth.
The Czech studio confirmed this on its official X account, putting an end to the rumors that have been swirling around it for some time. “You might have heard the rumors—it’s time to reveal what we’re working on,” they posted on their profile. “We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right.”

But that’s not their only project—they’re not abandoning their signature series. In fact, they’ll also be working on “a new Kingdom Come: Deliverance adventure,” though they haven’t specified whether it will be an RPG or a different genre. However, the reputation they’ve built over the past few years suggests that they won’t be abandoning the genre that has made their name in the industry.
That said, it remains unclear whether Daniel Vavra, director of the first two films, will be involved, as he is already working on the live-action adaptation of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
What can we expect from Warhorse’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ RPG?
Czech developers are currently among the leading names in the role-playing genre, joining other major European studios such as Larian Studios and CD Projekt. Warhorse is known for creating realistic gameplay that fits the setting of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, but also for crafting a vast open world teeming with life that reacts to the player’s actions and decisions—a feature they perfected in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

However, with their ‘Lord of the Rings’ game, they’ll be venturing into the unfamiliar territory of fantasy. Warhorse has always prided itself on its fidelity to the setting of the Central European Middle Ages, capturing life as it was centuries ago with its shops, customs, inns, combat... In any case, we’re talking about a project that should already have fans of both RPGs and the legendary fantasy literature franchise excited.
