It’s official: Ryan Gosling will be the MCU’s Ghost Rider, and the movie will arrive sooner than expected
Marvel announces Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider for 2028 as part of the MCU’s future.
San Diego Comic-Con is currently underway, and as usual, the Marvel Studios panel was one of the most anticipated. The biggest news to come out of it was that, after many months—almost years—of rumors, Ryan Gosling will finally join the MCU as Ghost Rider.
‘Ghost Rider’ is set to be released in 2028, and it doesn’t look like filming will run into many problems—at least from a personal standpoint—since the creative team behind ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ will be reuniting. In other words, not only will Gosling reprise his role as the lead, but Shawn Levy will return as director and Jonathan Tropper as screenwriter.
Levy is by no means a newcomer to Marvel Studios, as he is responsible for one of the House of Ideas’ biggest cinematic hits: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ He has also directed other films such as ‘Night at the Museum,’ ‘Free Guy,’ ‘The Adam Project,’ and ‘Real Steel,’ among others.
For his part, Gosling is one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood right now, and films like ‘La La Land’ and ‘Barbie’ catapulted him into the film industry’s elite—though he was already part of that elite thanks to other films like ‘The Notebook’ and ‘Drive.’ He has recently been in the news due to the release earlier this year of ‘Project Hail Mary’ (available on Prime Video), one of the best science fiction films of recent years.

At this point, it’s unclear which of the Spirit of Vengeance characters Gosling will play, but all signs point to Johnny Blaze, one of the most popular characters, whom Nicolas Cage previously portrayed in two heavily criticized films. “He’s a huge fan of the comics. He did come to us particularly with a specific vision based on some particular comics,” said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, regarding Gosling’s casting.
