Jabba’s return in Star Wars Outlaws is restricted to a DLC Season Pass despite featuring in the story trailer
The Jabba’s Gambit mission in Star Wars Outlaws will be a day 1 exclusive to Gold and Ultimate editions of the game, to the dismay of fans.
On the desert planet of Tatooine, the law of the Galactic Republic does not prevail, at least not at the time in which Star Wars Outlaws takes place, the open-world video game developed by Massive Entertainment. One of the most dangerous cartels in the galaxy operates in the homeland of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, which is ruled by one particular Hutt, the ruthless Jabba. The character will be back in the Ubisoft title, but not all missions will be accessible to every player at launch. This was confirmed by the publisher on the official website, where they revealed that the Jabba’s Gambit mission will be part of the season pass.
The nuance is that the mission will be locked “at launch”, which suggests that it will be released for the rest of the players later. In any case, those who want to play it from day 1 must purchase the Gold edition or the Ultimate edition, which cost $109.99 and $129.99 respectively. As might be expected, this move wasnt’ very well received among players, although exclusive missions contained in season passes are nothing new in the current video game industry.
Jabba the Hutt’s role in Star Wars Outlaws
The criminal warlord of Tatooine has spent decades dealing and reigning as a feudal lord on this arid planet, where he has built his own palace. During the events of Star Wars Outlaws, which fall between ‘A New Hope’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’, Jabba the Hutt hires Boba Fett to bring him Han Solo’s head, since he owes him money. At the end of Episode V, Darth Vader seeks to capture his son Luke and deliver him to the emperor encased in carbonite, so he first has to test the machine on someone else. The goal is to determine if it is a safe method, since Darth Sidious needs him alive in order to lure him to the dark side of the Force. The smuggler survives the process and Palpatine’s apprentice delivers the carbonite piece to Boba Fett.
At the beginning of ‘Return of the Jedi’, Han Solo is hanging as a trophy in Jabba’s palace, but the movie doesn’t explain how it gets there. The truth is that the block of carbonite changes hands several times before reaching its final destination, a journey that is narrated in the comics, in which Qi’ra, leader of the criminal syndicate Scarlet Dawn, participate. Han Solo’s former lover is one of the characters who will appear in the video game (without Emilia Clark reprising, unfortunately). After being auctioned, Jabba is the one that offers the most money. Outlaws will reveal the moment Solo is transported and delivered to the Hutt.
Star Wars Outlaws releases on August 30 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC.
