James Gunn confirms Brainiac for ‘Man of Tomorrow’, and you probably haven’t heard of him
After considering several famous names in Hollywood, Gunn has chosen a relatively unknown German actor.

James Gunn has just confirmed who will be the villain in ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ after The Hollywood Reporter had previously taken it as a given. But not only that, the head of DC Studios and director of the upcoming Man of Steel movie has announced who will play the alien. After names such as Dave Bautista, Sam Rockwell, and Matt Smith had been mentioned, Gunn surprised everyone by choosing an unknown German actor.
His name is Lars Eidinger, and if you’ve never heard of him, that’s perfectly understandable. The 49-year-old German actor meets one of Gunn’s must-have requirements: he is over 190 centimeters tall. It’s difficult to single out any of Eidinger’s films, as he is quite popular in German cinema but hasn’t worked much outside Germany. He can be seen, for example, in one of his most famous films, ‘Jay Kelly,’ starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler, which is available on Netflix.

What does seem clear is that Gunn is 100% convinced of his decision. In a question from a fan on Threads, where the director and producer is particularly active, he was asked about the performance that convinced him to choose Eidinger. Gunn’s answer is concise and emphatic: “His audition.” Surprisingly, fans in the responses seem quite happy with a casting choice that seemed ambitious but should not be dismissed prematurely.
