James Gunn details the main difference between DC Studios and Marvel Studios

The head of the next DC cinematic universe has spoken up about how they plan to be different from the MCU: “Every project will have a different vision”.

DC Studios vs Marvel Studios James Gunn

With Marvel Studios fully established as one of the most successful film companies in history, DC will try to recover the ground lost in the last decade with a new shared universe that will start from scratch; more or less. Be that as it may, James Gunn will try to reverse the situation, giving the starting signal for his new DCU on July 2025 with ‘Superman’, although in December we will have a first look of his new universe with ‘Creature Commandos’. Now, the famous director and screenwriter has explained the main difference between DC Studios and Marvel Studios; and it has to do with the vision of its artists and filmmakers.

DC Studios vs Marvel Studios: superhero duel

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn explained what the main difference is between his idea of a shared superhero universe and what Marvel Studios has been doing since 2008. “The thing I’ve always loved about DC Comics was that you had your mainstream comics that always ran, but they also had these tonally different comics like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns and All-Star Superman,” Gunn explained.

“It was different from Marvel in that way. That’s something that I really want to retain within the studio, that every project is going to bring a different vision by the artists who are creating it,” concludes the director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ for Marvel and the next ‘Superman’ on DC.

We will see if Gunn offers enough freedom to the creatives who join his superheroic project and it does not happen like in Marvel, with cases like those of ‘Ant-Man’ or ‘Doctor Strange 2′, which ended discarding the visions of its original directors. However, Marvel Studios has also allowed some freedom, as in the case of ‘Eternals’ by Chloe Zhao, or ‘Thor’ by Kenneth Branagh.
