‘Supergirl,’ key for DC in 2026

‘Supergirl’ is not just any movie: it is the counterpoint that James Gunn needs to Superman for his new DC extended universe. The film, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock (‘House of the Dragon’) as Kara Zor-El, offers a more raw portrayal of the Man of Steel’s cousin, marked by grief and the search for her purpose.

Far from Earth, Kara travels through different worlds after surviving the destruction of Krypton with a greater awareness of trauma than her famous cousin. This past makes her a more volatile figure, whose journey takes a turn when she crosses paths with a young alien determined to avenge her father’s death. Together, they embark on a journey in which violence and justice intertwine in unexpected ways.

‘Supergirl’ will premiere in theaters worldwide on June 26. It will later be added to the HBO Max catalog, following the network’s tradition.
