Jennifer Love-Hewitt’s warning for her return to ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’: “I don’t want to be in it for five seconds”
The actress confirms that a deal to return to the saga is close and could be announced soon.
A few months ago it was practically confirmed that Jennifer Love-Hewitt, the great star of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’, will return for its new installment, in which she will share the screen again with Freddie Prince Jr. However, her presence is not yet fully confirmed, and the actress has a condition that must be fulfilled to join this project that Sony has resumed after the cancellation of the series in 2022.
Love-Hewitt is sending a warning to those responsible for the movie, but at the same time it’s great news for fans of this classic slasher and its sequel: she doesn’t want to be a mere supporting actor and her presence to remain a mere cameo.
“If I’m going to come back 27 years later, I don’t want to just be in it for five seconds,” the actress told Parade. “I don’t want it to just be like that thing that’s like, ‘Oh, well, there’s the ghost of I Know What You Did past, here she is.’ So I want to be able to carve out time to really be in it for people and to have it matter. So we’re working on it. We’re so close. The announcement will be so exciting when it happens, for me as well, and I’m hoping it’s soon.”
What was ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ about?
In this 1997 slasher, Love-Hewitt, Prince Jr. and the rest of the main cast were stalked by a serial killer after they ran over a person in a car accident and left the scene without telling anyone. Unfortunately for them, there was a witness who began terrorizing them with anonymous letters a year later.
At the moment not much is known about this new movie, except that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will be its director and that the rumored final title is ‘I Never Forget What You Did Last Summer’. This new installment will be canon in the saga and already features Lola Tung (‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’), Madelyn Cline (‘Outer Banks’) and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (‘Grotesquerie’). It is scheduled for release in July 2025, when it will share the billboard with no less than ‘Superman’ or ‘Fantastic 4: First Steps’.
