Just friends, or is there something more? Nintendo clarifies the relationship between Mario and Princess Peach

Mario and Princess Peach are one of the most iconic couples in video game history, or at least that’s what many people believed. The relationship between the two characters has been the subject of debate, but Nintendo has put an end to the question. The reason? A message from the company in the Nintendo Today app makes the current status of their relationship clear.

What is the relationship between Mario and Princess Peach? They “are good friends and help each other out whenever they can,” says the message from Nintendo Today, the free app that offers daily content about Nintendo, including news and information about its characters. In this case, the information about both characters seems to make it clear that there is no romantic relationship between them.

A relationship that is now part of video game history

Over the decades, Mario has saved Princess Peach countless times. A knight who always manages to save the damsel, leading us to believe for years that the two have a romantic relationship, even though the Japanese company has avoided showing them as boyfriend and girlfriend or husband and wife.

Endings like the one in Super Mario Odyssey give meaning to Nintendo’s description. Could this change in the future? It’s not out of the question, but in the short term, it seems unlikely. For now, we have a friendship in which it’s possible that one or both of them feel more for the other than they dare to express.
