Deadpool and Wolverine’, the new movie of the Merc with a Mouth alongside Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine — or one of his variants — now part of Marvel Studios, will kick off the “mutant era” in the MCU, according to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. This has been assured by the Marvel boss in a recent interview, giving rise to the X-Men entering once and for all the current Marvel Cinematic Universe after the purchase of Fox by Disney.

The mutant era begins in the MCU

The term mutant has been ringing in the MCU for some time now, especially since Disney’s purchase of Fox’s rights was confirmed, to bring the X-Men, Deadpool and The Fantastic 4 into the Marvel Studios. And that is after tentative mentions in ‘Ms. Marvel’, ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ or the appearance of Charles Xavier in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’—in addition to the post-credits of ‘The Marvels’—the MCU finally opens its doors to mutants completely with ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, where Deadpool travels through the multiverse in search of help from a very special Wolverine.

Now, Kevin Feige himself has directly mentioned the mutant landing in the MCU in a recent interview, in which he also pointed out that not everything will be R-rated from now on, except for ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ and the upcoming ‘Blade’: “The ‘after’ [Deadpool & Wolverine] is clearly — now that we have characters from the X-Men world, the mutants — we haven’t had access to before. So, this is the beginning of that, and every [movie] post-Deadpool & Wolverine will be the Mutant era coming into the MCU,” Feige confirmed.

All in all, and after some references within the MCU to “enhanced” characters - to avoid the term mutant, until recently in the hands of Fox - Marvel Studios will finally be able to work on the X-Men in a completely open and unabashed way, giving rise to what will be the next MCU saga after the current multiverse one: the mutant saga.
