Kevin Feige on the future of the MCU: ‘We’ve barely scratched the surface’

The head of Marvel Studios says that they’re only just beginning with bringing their comics to the big screen, promising more to come.

Shortly before the premiere of ‘Avengers Endgame’ No one was betting on a decline in the quality and box office of a machine as well-oiled as that of Marvel Studios. But the reality is that after four years since its peak, the MCU has suffered a marked decline in both audience, quality and box office figures, either for a few new characters that have not managed to engage like the classics -including productions that are too generic- and a focus on series which has not worked as expected for Disney+. However, Kevin Feige, director of Marvel Studios, has assured that there is still much to see from Marvel.

Kevin Feige’s bet on Marvel Studios

The head of the MCU stated in a recent interview with Variety: “The great thing about Marvel truly is how many wonderful, interesting characters we have in the comics — they’ve been at it for 85 years. Even after 32 movies, it feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface”. For now, the latest rumors suggest that ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will be a kind of reboot for the MCU, allowing the entry of highly anticipated characters such as The Fantastic Four or the X-Men, in addition to the more than probable return of classic characters such as Iron Man or Captain America.

Furthermore, Feige assures that Marvel Studios will keep a tradition which so far has worked very well for the company: “We’ve had a tradition at Marvel Studios that started with the very first ‘Iron Man.’ For every new release, the cast, producers, director, and I will drop in on an opening night showing and watch the movie with the fans,”continues the director of Marvel Studios. “Feeling the excitement in the theater, hearing cheers or gasps from the audience, is always a reminder of what these movies and characters mean to fans. Being there on opening night of ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ hearing the crowds, is something I’ll never forget,” concludes the creative.

We will see if Marvel Studios manages to come back despite the latest bad news, such as weak box office returns or the complete restart of production for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ and other projects announced a long time ago that have not yet started.
