Kong’s fist in Call of Duty costs more than the full game and players are angry
Call of Duty is back on another controversy, this time due to the exorbitant price of a special collab weapon with Godzilla x King Kong: The New Empire
As part of the new Season 3, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 has added Kong’s very own weapon to the game. It is part of a collaboration event with ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ (2024), the most recent film of the Monsterverse. It so happens that to unlock it you have to buy the four operator packs of the movie, at about $20 each for a total of $80, which is slightly higher than what Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was priced at launch. And worst of all? Those who have obtained it agree that it’s not even worth it.
From micro to macrotransactions: Kong’s weapon in Call of Duty costs $80
The BEAST Gauntlet has been available in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 since April 8, 2024. It is a huge fist that simulates the cybernetic enhancement that Kong gets during ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ 2024. It can kill enemies with a single punch, as can be seen in this clip.
To get it you have to buy all four ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ packs, each of them at 2,400 Call of Duty Points (about $19.99). In other words: you must spend $79.96 to get Kong’s weapon in Call of Duty.
But it doesn’t end there: players are disappointed because this weapon, in addition to being tremendously expensive, does not have several of the characteristics that would be expected from a premium item: You cannot equip camouflage of any kind, and it also does not have any execution animation. The only thing special about it is that it has a special inspect animation.
Some players think that Activision may have implemented this as a test to see how receptive the community is to a weapon that can be considered “pay to win”, while others argue that they don’t care because they only see this weapon as a bonus item for having completed the Titan Collection by purchasing the four corresponding packs.
Although this is the first time Activision has done this with a weapon, it’s not the first time that something like this has been attempted. During Season 1 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 there was a promotion that allowed you to obtain a Fremen skin by purchasing two of the three ‘Dune’ themed operator bundles.
