Krypto the superdog is joining James Gunn’s Superman movie, as reveals his first photo

James Gunn has revealed that, inspired in his very own adopted dog, Krypto joined the Superman movie and changed the entire plot of the script.

Superman

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Superman’s dog! Although well, reducing him to just that might mean demeaning poor Krypto. At the end of the day we are talking about a Superdog capable of talking and even saving our planet by himself. James Gunn was very emotional about his pet on social networks and also took the opportunity to show the one who will accompany Clark Kent in his new adventure on the big screen.

“Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture - he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, “Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” - and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life. What better time to debut the not-so-good-good-boy Krypto than #AdoptAShelterDog Month. Btw, Ozu today, is, fairly often, a very good boy”

Will Krypto be voiced by Dwayne Johnson?

Crypto debuted in the comics in 1955 and has been a regular ally of Superman ever since. A white dog with a gold collar who wears his best friend’s red cape and is named after the planet Kent came from. With supernatural intelligence, super strength, and enhanced senses, we had already seen him in adaptations such as ‘DC League of Super-Pets’, where he was voiced by Dwayne Johnson and he had his ups and downs with Batman’s pet, another canid named Ace (and played by Kevin Hart).

Even so, we had not had his presence in any live-action before, so Krypto will be one of the surprises in the new ‘Superman’ movie (known until a few months ago as ‘Superman Legacy’). Planned for August 11, 2025, it will be the first project of the new DC Universe prepared by James Gunn (known until now as the director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’).
