Leaving Vault 101 in Fallout 3 is one of the best moments in videogames of this century

Millions of players stepped out into the Wasteland for the first time back in an unforgettable October 30, 2008. A perfect memory to celebrate the Prime Video series.

With the long-awaited premiere of ‘Fallout’, the Prime Video series set in the post-apocalyptic world of the Bethesda game series, there are many players who are preparing to watch it, analyzing every detail and comparing it with the RPGs that have given them so much joy. In the past, the franchise had a very tactical style and an isometric perspective, so Fallout 3 was the installment that unleashed a true mass phenomenon on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

It was October 30, 2008 when, following in the wake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion that already allowed Bethesda to enjoy a huge success, Fallout 3 landed and conquered everyone from one of its first moments, the one in which the player escaped from Vault 101 and saw the Wasteland for the first time. A moment that, by the way, is probably the most special one they remember today. In fact, it would not be surprising if when the time comes to sit down to watch the series, many visualize in their minds that first glimpse of the desolate wasteland.

Escape!

This is the name of the mission in which the player escapes from Vault 101, but not before taking the G.O.A.T. test and defining their character’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. Initially, the idea was to live peacefully in the shelter, but after a series of unfortunate incidents, there is no choice but to set out to explore a wasteland full of danger, where if you’re lucky enough to avoid looters and other criminals, you may end up being torn apart by a fearsome Deathclaw. Or worse, harassed by a horde of Feral Ghouls!

Later in the game, there were ways to re-enter Vault 101. It’s one of the many things you can do in Fallout 3, an open-world RPG that stands out, in addition to its fantastic setting, for its plot, the consequences of decisions, the factions, and many more elements that led to it becoming one of the biggest games of the year ever.

Where to play Fallout 3

PC, PS5, PS4 Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One via backward compatibility and services such as PlayStation Plus Premium and Xbox Game Pass... Luckily, Fallout 3 is still a very accessible game, since it is available on almost all platforms and its price is not very high. In addition, it often falls below the $10 mark during sales. Don’t lose sight of its DLC either, as some like Point Lookout, Operation: Anchorage, and The Pitt are especially recommended.
