Update:

At CES 2026, which will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 6 to 9, 2026, LG Electronics appears ready to deliver on that promise with its first robot dedicated entirely to the home: the LG CLOiD.

Forget about circular vacuum cleaners that bump into the sofa; we’re talking about an evolutionary leap towards a real assistant. LG has designed this device not as a curious gadget, but as a functional tool intended to eliminate the mental and physical burden of daily tasks. The goal is clear: for you to devote yourself to enjoying your family and hobbies, while the machine takes care of the rest.

How does it manage to move like a human?

What really sets LG CLOiD apart from other attempts at domestic robotics we’ve seen at previous trade shows is its anatomy. LG has equipped this assistant with two articulated arms powered by highly engineered motors. Each arm has seven degrees of freedom, which in simple terms means it can move, rotate, and stretch almost as naturally as your own arms.

But the real magic is in the hands. Engineers have implemented five individually actuated fingers. This is crucial because it allows for advanced dexterity in manipulating objects. It’s no longer just about pushing a box; this robot is designed for tasks that require fine motor skills, such as holding delicate objects or performing precise cleaning.

The technical features that make this possible include:

  • Advanced central processor: Acts as the “brain” in the robot’s head, managing all operations.
  • Sensors and cameras: Allow the robot to “see” and understand the three-dimensional environment of your living room or kitchen.
  • Communication interface: Integrates a screen, speaker, and voice recognition so that talking to it feels natural.

What is Affective Intelligence?

Having a robot at home isn’t much use if you have to reprogram it every time you move a chair. That’s where LG’s Affective Intelligence comes in. CLOiD doesn’t just follow commands; it’s designed to perceive its environment and learn from it.

Through recurring interaction with you and your family, the robot refines its responses. This means that, over time, it will better understand your routines and preferences, offering personalized support. The idea is that interaction should be fluid, almost like asking a housemate for a favor, eliminating the friction we sometimes feel with current “smart” technology.

LG’s strategic future and where to watch it

LG is not playing around. The creation of the HS Robotics Lab within its home appliance division shows that they see robots as the next big pillar of consumer electronics. They are actively seeking global partnerships to accelerate this technology and make it accessible as soon as possible.

For those lucky enough to attend CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the LG CLOiD will be operating in real-life scenarios at booth number 15004 in the Convention Center. There, the promise of a “Zero Labor Home” will cease to be a science fiction concept and become a tangible reality.
