Life in Gladiator: This is what Pompeii, its streets and the Colosseum would have looked like before it was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius

There are only a few hours left to enjoy Gladiator on the big screen.

Pompeia

When we combine the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Gladiator’ with artificial intelligence, we can get results like the one we will show you in this article. Ridley Scott’s second installment will be released next Friday, November 15, and with its return, more than two decades later, gladiators and everything related to the arenas of ancient Rome are back on the front pages. Pompeii is one of the most important ancient Roman cities. Located near present-day Naples, this ancient city was buried and preserved under ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Pompeii remained buried for more than 1,500 years until it was rediscovered in the 18th century. The layer of volcanic remains had surprisingly preserved the city, and despite the passage of time, some buildings, murals, everyday objects, and even food remained. Thanks to these findings, archaeologists have been able to learn what life was like in an ancient Roman city and determine details of its culture, such as the lifestyle, art, and architecture of the time.

This is how Pompeii looked before it was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius

We must go back to noon on August 24, 79 A.D., when a huge eruption of “Vesuvius,” a volcano located off the Gulf of Naples, took place and covered the entire city with volcanic debris. Among the great public buildings that survived were an impressive forum and an amphitheater. Luxurious villas and houses dating back to the 4th century B.C. were also unearthed, and even bakeries were found with loaves of bread still in the ovens.

Thanks to AI, we can see in the following video what life would have been like in Pompeii before its destruction. Everyday scenes of the ancient Roman city are recreated, with gladiators, bakers, children and other residents moving through the streets. At the same time, they are surrounded by monumental architecture, including a coliseum, a thermae, and several pantheons.
