Live-action One Piece gets a new trailer showing off the characters, actions, and VFX

With only a few weeks to go before its full release, the One Piece live-action adaptation by Netflix has received a new trailer that showcases our clearest view of what to expect from the show so far.

With almost three minutes of previously unseen footage, fans can finally get a good look at the entirety of the Straw Hats, the villains we can expect, some of the grander sets and events in this first arc of the story, and most importantly the visual effects that, while they still carry that strange “Netflix CGI” feel with them, actually fit within the tone of One Piece. You can watch the trailer below.

“No compromises on this show”, says creator Eiichiro Oda

When the trailer was unleashed on the internet, series creator Eiichiro Oda also released a letter sharing his thoughts and opinions on the production. As he’s one to do, Oda spoke directly to the fans of the manga and the anime, in part to ease their anxiousness about this adaptation, but also sharing his excitement for what this production has managed to do.

“So, the live action One Piece! The teaser and the trailer are now out, and the launch date for the show itself is set for August 31. I’ll say this. There were no compromises on this show!” he wrote. “There was so much that went into it--all the efforts by the actors, the building of the world and the costumes, presenting things in a way that can only be done in live action, the dialogue--and the entire process of so many people putting their heads together was a festivity in and of itself.”

“By now I just love the production team and cast so much that I can’t wait for them to get the acclaim they deserve from everyone around the world,” concluded the creator, placing his trust on the people who managed to bring his story to life in a new format.

Netflix’s One Piece will release on August 31 exclusively on the streaming platform.
