‘Mafia: The Old Country’ surprises at The Game Awards with first trailer

Take a jump back to the origins of the Cosa Nostra.

Mafia: The Old Country

One of the surprising announcements during the Gamescom Opening Night Live was the unexpected return of the Mafia franchise. With a short teaser, 'Mafia: The Old Country' was announced that in addition to this return after 8 years of its last installment, we would cross the pond to know all the origins. Sicily, 1900, the beginnings of what is known as the Cosa Nostra.

A fragment of the trailer was leaked on social media this morning, but finally we have the first glimpse of this new installment, which will arrive earlier than expected in the summer of 2025. Without further ado, here is the trailer:

Hangar 13’s new production tells the story of the origins of the criminal organizations that have operated in the Silician underworld since the early twentieth century. They promise a plot set in a “dangerous and unforgiving” era.

A long history with the saga

The ‘Mafia’ franchise was born in 2002 by Illusion Softworks, later known as 2K Czech until its dissolution in 2017. They were also responsible for the second installment, while the third was already in the hands of Hangar 13. This studio developed the remake of the first game and the remasterings of its two sequels. In addition, the developer left the gun on the bedside table and picked up the racket to develop Top Spin 2K25, which was nominated for Best Sports Game at The Game Awards 2024.

Mafia: The Old Country’ joins Borderlands 3 as one of 2K Games' most important titles for the coming year. The jewel in the crown, however, is GTA VI, which is still scheduled for release in 2025.
