Margot Robbie admits she kissed Brad Pitt off-script in ‘Babylon’: “So sue me”
The Australian actress, known for her role as Barbie, says it was at the suggestion of director Damien Chazelle; Brad Pitt had no idea.

Years later, ’Babylon’ remains, for many, the most underrated film of 2022, especially due to Margot Robbie’s outstanding performance, which went unrecognized during awards season. The film transports viewers to the bohemian and chaotic world of the U.S. film industry in the 1920s, during the transition from silent to sound cinema, with Hollywood’s depravity and excesses as the backdrop.
Central to this story are Nellie LaRoy (Margot Robbie), a young aspiring actress, and Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt), a veteran actor struggling to adapt to the emerging industry. Robbie’s kiss with Pitt was entirely improvised and off-script, prompted by the film’s director, Damien Chazelle. The Australian actress humorously remarked, “So sue me”, as E! News reported
The surprise kiss between Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt
“That wasn’t in the script, but I thought, ‘When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I’m just gonna go for it.‘” admitted Robbie, a two-time Oscar nominee for ’I, Tonya’ (2018) and ’Bombshell’ (2020). “I said, ‘Damien, I think Nellie would just go up and kiss Jack’,” Robbie explained about her spontaneous action toward her co-star Brad Pitt.

While the director initially appreciated Nellie’s spontaneity toward Jack, he quickly realized Robbie’s true intentions: “And Damien was like, ‘Well, she could—wait, hold on. You just wanna kiss Brad Pitt.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, so sue me. This opportunity might never come up again.’ And he was like, ‘It does work for the character,’ and I was like, ‘I think so”, Robbie said, laughing.
The crew reportedly found the actress’s spontaneity amusing, though Brad Pitt’s reaction remains unknown. The actor, who is set to release his new film ’F1′, commented “let’s have it,”, when asked by Access Hollywood, after sayin that the kiss is “the most G-rated thing she does in this movie. She’s on fire”.
